What is a SUN TAX ?
It is a bureaucratic Tax placed in some States of Australia, on people that have proceeded down the Path of Energy Independence, currently applied in NSW & SA, by placing a Tax on people that Export Excess Energy Above the 8kW Threshold !
The Sun Tax Threshold may change at different areas in each State when/if applied !
Talks of a "Sun Tax" have been ongoing since late 2021, when the Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) accepted a proposal to consider a two-way pricing structure for solar exports.
Since then, the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) (a Self Governing Department) has been assessing distributors from states and territories on a case-by-case basis to determine whether solar owners should be charged for exporting excess solar power to the grid during peak generation times, we feel the.
The two-way pricing structure would change the way feed-in tariffs work and allow energy providers to charge customers for the energy they send to the grid, instead of paying them.
Why is there a SUN TAX ?
The real cause stems from years of incompetent Solar Retailers & Installers taking the easy path of Installing all Fixed Solar Panels to Face North, instead of facing 1/3 to the East, 1/3 to the North & 1/3 to the West, as the Even Spread across the Day would have avoided the current dilemma of the Midday-Over-Supply of Power being Exported into the State Grid. Solution: Become Power independent by Installing Energy Storage !
The Sun Tax is an unneeded pricing mechanism thought-up by another unneeded AEMC Cronyism department, to combat the oversupply of energy being sent to the State Grid during peak sunlight hours, when demand for electricity is low.
The large inflows of energy being sent to the grid means that supply outstrips demand to such a degree it causes instability which, can lead to voltage issues and possible blackouts.
The oversupply issue is reflected in wholesale electricity prices, which are often very low during the middle of the day, and is a Failure of those in charge of our National Energy Distribution, to have the Vision to Install Energy Storage at Every Sub-station that has an Over Supply of Energy for Renewable sources.
Just think, if all the Wages paid to form these Fake departments, was put into installing Energy Storage to Stabilising all the Sub-stations with an Over Supply of Renewable Energy, it would be Far better, especially with Energy Storage at it lowest in history !
The current costs for 5MWh (5,000kWh) LiFePO4 Energy Storage, in a 40' containerised Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), equates to just $154kWh !
Then there would be No need to form more useless Cronyism Departments.

It begs believe, imbeciles like Chris Bowen & others Highly Political & Highly Unskilled Cronies in charge of the Energy Department, are Talking of installing Massive Wind Farms, that may have to be Switched-Off during Daytime Peak Over Supply !
Solution: The Cost of these Wind Farms, should be put into Energy Storage at or Next to each Sub Station with any Over supply of Renewable & Coal Fired Energy, being Stored and Exported at Peak Load times, that is commonly between 3pm ~ 10pm.
